Location - Albany, NY
Pay Range - $20-$22 DOE
We are in need of a temporary, part-time Legal Assistant to work with Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests and other duties as required by our attorneys at NYSERDA. This position is remote, 20 hours per week for approximately 9 months with possibility of extension. Information on the role is below.
What skills are needed to be successful in this role?
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with professional decorum
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of legal documents in an administrative capacity, as a paralegal, or legal assistant
- Prior experience working with or knowledge of Freedom of Information Law
Certifications and qualifications, including education/degree
- 1-3 years of professional experience working with legal documents in an administrative capacity, as a paralegal, or legal assistant
- Associate degree or certification in legal studies a plus
- A combination of education and experience is appropriate and will be considered
The position working with the Counsel’s office, which is responsible for providing legal guidance on multiple, complex procurement opportunities annually, the resource will perform the following duties:
- Make initial determinations regarding information releasable under Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).
- Draft legal responses to parties as directed or authorized by the attorney;
- Perform document review, including the use of electronic discovery, and prepare draft of responses to FOIL requests for attorney review;
- Apply knowledge of the law and legal procedures in rendering direct assistance to the attorneys;
- Prepare and interpret legal documents and forms;
- Conduct research into complex leg al matters, analyze materials, and present both verbal and written comments on findings; and assist with organization and coordination of contractual and other legal documentation to support complex procurements.
